Michelle Gatuiku

Bio

Michelle Gatuiku is a soul and jazz singer, songwriter and performing artist from Nairobi, Kenya.

As of 2020, Michelle was studying medicine at the University of Nairobi.

She refers to her music as music for the soul. Born and raised in the heart of Nairobi, her music evolves as it does, constantly molding and growing as she pours the lessons inflicted by age, politics, friendships, family and love into her art.

Her interest in music began in high school where she excelled as a soprano soloist. She began pursuing it as a hobby after high school through theater and musicals as part of the Spellcast company, building her confidence in the process and expanding her love for expression through acting. Towards the end of 2016, she decided to study music performance and industry and joined Kenya’s esteemed music school, Sauti Academy. It is then that she grew her songwriting skills.

Michelle has performed at several music events over recent years, including Engage, Imarika Initiative, Dark Green, Rozzi@work’s Save the Date, Africa Dusk, Sebuleni as well as being aired live on Citizen TV’s Power Breakfast. In 2018, she founded her own platform, The Little Concert Sessions, a small and intimate event she organises herself, hosting and performing alongside acts Ciano Maimba, Kaskazini, Wanja Wohoro and Emma Cheruto.
