Bio

Diana Akiwumi, now known as Diana Hopeson, is the founder & CEO of GHMusic Publishing & Management, a startup company poised to service the Ghana music industry. Her participation in Midem 2019 brought her into contact with Music industry giants Broma 16 and Heaven 11 from Norway whose partnership has resourced her company to excel.

Diana Akiwumi is a Ghanaian celebrated Diva whose 'Winner' album released in 1993 brought her to the limelight. She has nine (9) albums including “If Jesus says yes”, “Ebesimeyie”, “Yeyi w’aye daa”, “Africa America” and “Koso Aba”. In the early 90's, her ‘Winner” album won her an ECRAG Award and she was interviewed on BBC. Her music was also recommended by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Network for evangelism.

Diana has traveled extensively as an Artiste over the years, Performing with her band in several concerts including Panafest (Several times in Ghana), Afro Music Festival and MASA in La Cote D’voire, Togo, Nigeria and Anton Philipszaal in The Hague.

After receiving a National Honors for her contributions to the Music industry in 2007, She took the seat as President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (Musiga) that same year, and exhibited active unionism. Diana is also a copyright activist and was involved in drafting several policies for the Ghana music industry. Amongst several conferences, she represented Ghana at the World Music Conference in Tallin, Estonia in 2011 to speak on Music and Poverty Reduction.

Diana is a member of the Ghana Music Awards Board and has served on several National Boards and Committees including the National Theatre, Copyright Owners Society of Ghana (COSGA) and the National Intellectual Property Policy Committee. She is currently the 2nd Vice Chairperson for the Ghana Music Rights organization (Ghamro). This year, she was given a citation as the IP Icon for Copyright by WIPO, the Registrar General and Attorney Generals office of Ghana.

Mrs. Hopeson has certificate in Music Therapy, and Advanced certificate in Intellectual Property. She is a graduate of the Christian Leaders Institute, University of Ghana’s School of Performing Arts, Youth with a Mission (YWAM)’s College of Arts and Spots of the University of the Nations (UofN), Kona, Hawaii and the University of Education, Winneba with an Mphil in Counseling. As a LausanneARTs Catalyst at Large, her Mission is to help enlighten church leaders to embrace artistic Christians for ministries in the church, Individualism, and in broader world mission. Her vision is spreading the gospel through the arts.
