iPhone Overheating or Hot? How-To Fix

Third-party apps can cause your iPhone to overheat, especially for iPhone 7 models. But it can be even on iPhone 14 if you don’t use clean phone. To check this, close all open apps on your iPhone and restart the phone. Finally, update to the latest version of iOS.

Force close iPhone apps

Double-click the home screen to see all open apps

Swipe up on the app preview to close

Swipe right or left to see all open apps Search for apps, close all, and close X then briefly press the volume up key. Briefly press the volume down button. Then press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo. iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold both sides and the Volume Down button for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on your iPhone. 6s and earlier, iPad or iPod touch:

Press and hold the Home and Top (or Side) buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Updating the operating system often fixes the iPhone overheating issue as the update contains a fix.

Of course, always make a backup before updating iOS. Make sure to make this part of your routine by backing up regularly using iTunes, iCloud, or your backup app of choice.

Update your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Software Update and selecting Download and Install Updates. This can take an hour or more.

Alternatively, you can update your iPhone on your computer if the device itself doesn't have enough free space.

Remove All Cases

Heat issues are often caused by iPhone and other iDevice cases insulating the back of the iPhone. iPhone batteries generate heat while charging. This heat spreads across the back of the phone. Covering the back of your iPhone with a case makes it less likely that the phone will dissipate the heat it has built-in.

In fact, cases often act as insulation, keeping heat inside the case and the iPhone. Think about your water heater. All manufacturers recommend wrapping the water heater to keep the water warm so that the heat does not evaporate from the surface of the water heater. Good for hot water, but terrible for electronics!

Reset

You may need to slightly update your settings. So try this: Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

This will reset all settings. No data will be erased. If you have gigabytes of music, videos, and photos, selecting this option will not delete them! Text messages, emails, and actual data will not be deleted. This will reset all Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do Not Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness, Wallpaper, and Privacy settings to their default values.
