Carsten Rasch


Carsten Rasch is an entrepeneur and music curator, having moved on from his Cape Town based venue Blah Blah Bar to establish Urban Noizz. He is a founding director of STARTfest (Stanford Arts Festival, previously known as Herfsfees) and the founder of scene-changing music startup Gigll. A survivor from the South African punk and new wave scene of the eighties, he is the author of Between Rock & A Hard Place, a memoir of this heady time of political turmoil, published in 2019 by Jacana/MFBooks. He drums for the Cape-based bands The TIme Flies, and The Hearts of Darkness (backing band for Dax Butler).

In past lives, he was a documentary director & producer, film festival director, concert promoter, band manager and club owner.
