Larry Maluma

Bio

Larry Maluma was born in Zambia and moved to Australia in 1985. He is an accomplished musician, composer and vocalist and sings in a combination of English and his native languages, including Nyanja, Bemba and Tonga, adopting styles to blend his own unique brand of African roots reggae. The resulting sound put his music at the top of the Zambian charts. Larry has released 12 albums and more than 15 music videos, which have been aired in Australia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

A recognised and popular music star in his native Zambia, Larry Maluma is a major contributor to the Australian African roots and reggae scene. He has headlined festivals such as the Apollo Bay Music Festival, Bellingen Global Carnival and the Globe to Globe World Music Festival (2001) and has shared a stage with the likes of Jimmy Cliff, The Wailers and Angelique Kidjo. In 2004 he donated some of his songs to MMM International for The African Dream, a project assisting underprivileged children in Zambia.

His albums include 'Confusion' (1987), 'Man & Woman' (1993), 'Makani Angu (My Story)' (2005), 'Tusekelele (Let’s Celebrate)' (2009), 'Bakaindi (Ancestors)' (2009) and 'Ndakondwa (I'm Happy)' (2014). His 12th album, 'Ulemu (Respect)', was released internationally in 2015, over 30 years after it was first recorded in Zambia, his debut recording . In 2015 Maluma received a Lifetime Achievement Award winner from the Born N Bred Awards on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC). He runs his own label, called Safari Music.
