Maureen Lilanda

Bio

Born on 24 April 1967 Maureen Lupo Lilanda is a female jazz artist from Lusaka, Zambia. Best known in the music circles as ‘Aunty Maureen’ , Lilanda is a singer, songwriter and performer. She has heöd local and international gigs. Her music is a fusion of modern beats and rhythms with authentic sounds and tastes of Zambia.

She has released a couple of albums namely 'Nandayeya', 'Coming Home', 'Evolution', 'Tetwe' and 'Soul Masala'. As of 2016, she was signed to ZAMMO Sounds Record label. She is the lead vocalist of her European band ‘Le Banquets Nomade’. The outfit has an album. Afora album. She was also a lead singer of the famous Zambian Accapella group Amashiwi.

She has collaborated and shared stages with various artists such as the Malmo Symphony of Sweden, Oliver Mtukudzi, Fra Fra of Netherlands, Magic System, Baba Maal of Senegal, Black Voices of the UK, Leona Lewis, Jonathan Butler, and Seal. Maureen has also led a female Acapella group called Amashiwi to Japan.

She has worn a number of awards from the National Arts Council (NAC) Award in the Best Female Artiste category. She has also won multi-Ngoma awards, two Azami awards and Starmaker accolade. She was nominated in the South Africa Kora Award for Best Female Artist. On 21 March 2014 she was awarded the Born 'n' Bred Lifetime Achievement Award.

Besides music, she is a holder of a Diploma in Journalism. She is a motivational speaker, and has addressed in her music as well as at various conferences issues on malaria, HIV, child abuse, domestic violence, morality, religion, and dealing with the loss of a loved one.
