Cairokee

Bio

Founded by childhood friends in Cairo, Egypt, Cairokee is the first authentic Egyptian rockband which has in the past decade developed its repertoire and fan base in Egypt with their catchy lyrics and original music. They are considered one of the most famous Egyptian bands in the Arab region. Their songs speak about the everyday real lives thousands of youth are living. With their suffering, dreams, sadness, hopes and beliefs, each song holds a new message from the heart of a life-changing generation to the out world.

After the success of their debut song 'Sot el Horreya' (released in 2011) they began a number of tours and have since collaborated with poets and the best artists form the new Arab scene. The song is a joint collaboration between the band's main vocalist Amir Eid and music producer, sound engineer and vocalist Hany Adel of the band Wust El-Balad. The song was well-received and had 2 million views on YouTube.

This was followed by the release of another hit song titled 'Ya El Midan' (Oh you, the Square). Its release marked the return of singer Aida el Ayoubi following his absence from the stage for nearly two decades. The song was a tribute to Tahrir Square.

On 24 January 2012, they released a video on YouTube called 'Ethbat Makanak' (Stand by your position). The clip featured prominent Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef. In june 2011, the band released their first album 'Matloob Zaeem' (A Leader is Wanted). The release came after they spent years without support to release an album. Finally, Coca-Cola came to their rescue and sponsored the launch of the album.

On 21 March 2013, Red Bull organized an event in which Cairokee played against Wust El-Balad dubbed "Red Bull Sound Clash" where the spectators were the judge and the winner would be declared according to the intensity of the crowd's cheering.

In early 2014, they released their third album 'El Sekka Shemal'. The album had appearences from different artists, including Algerian singer Souad Massi, Abdel Baset Hammouda and Zap Tharwat.

As of February 2016, the music outfit had released four albums namely Matloob Zaeem (2011), Wana Ma'a Nafsy A'ed (2012), El Sekka Shemal (2014) and Naas W Naas (2015).
