Spotify partners Waymo to offer in-car music and podcast streaming
Spotify has partnered with self-driving taxi company Waymo to give passengers in selected US cities access to their personal Spotify libraries during rides.
- Passengers can connect their Spotify accounts either before or during their trip.
The service is now available to Waymo users in Phoenix, San Francisco and Los Angeles, allowing them to listen to music, podcasts and audiobooks while travelling. Passengers can connect their Spotify accounts either before or during their trip.
Before a ride, users can link their accounts through the Waymo app by selecting Spotify under Music preferences and logging in. During a ride, passengers can connect by selecting Spotify on the in-car screen and scanning a QR code. Once connected, they can browse and control playback from their phone or the vehicle’s display.
To mark the launch, Bay Area rapper Saweetie said: “Pull up, play ‘boffum,’ and let the car drive? That’s Icy energy! I’m hyped for my fans to ride in style with Waymo and stream my new single on Spotify while they cruise. This collab is straight vibes.”
Spotify said the partnership was aimed at offering “a truly frictionless listening experience” and noted that it already has integrations with nearly 30 car brands. “Our partnership with Waymo builds upon our commitment to redefine listening in the car for both drivers and passengers,” the company said.
