Soweto Jazz Fest to host impressive international line-up
The 2019 edition of Soweto International Jazz Festival (SIJF) will be held at the Soweto Theatre complex from 14 to 16 June.
The first day of the festival will feature US artists Raheem DeVaughn, Terry Hunter, Shani Kulture and DJ Rob Dinero. They will be joined by local artists Amanda Black and Nasty C.
Estelle (UK), Julian Vaughn (US), Pieces of a Dream (US), Gordon Chambers (US), Kameron Corvet (US), Lady Zamar (SA) and Ernie Smith (SA) will entertain fans on 16 June.
Third World (Jamaica), Irvin Mayfield (US), Natalie Rungan (SA), Lira, Mi Casa (SA), Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse (SA), Pieces of a Dream (US) and Julian Vaughn (US) will perform on the last day of the event.
“Day one of the festival is dedicated to the celebration of our young people,” the SIJF said. “In addition to an incredible hip hop, reggae and dance music line-up, we're excited to partner with platinum-selling, Grammy-winning songwriter, producer and artist Rico Love, to launch an educational programme designed to educate and engage young people who aspire to be part of the music industry. We are proud to present the I Love Music Africa’ workshops during the day and concert event during the evening.
“International day will feature a dynamic line up of pan-African, local and international artists. We will also conduct VIP artist interview panels, interviews, acoustic performances and media broadcasts.
"Day three of the festival will feature an amazing line-up of jazz and gospel acts to cement the incredible celebration of music culture. We will continue to focus on cultural exchange programmes to allow fans to gain access to the hearts and minds of some the most celebrated artists.”
