SoulFreakah and ZuluMafia drops album blending amapiano, house influences
South African artists SoulFreakah and ZuluMafia have released a collaborative album titled HouseAlive under Same Sun Records, combining elements of amapiano and house music in a project shaped by personal experiences and improvisational production.
SoulFreakah.
The album is described as drawing from emotionally charged moments, including heartbreak and late-night reflection, which the artists say influenced both its conception and sound. It incorporates narrative-driven production with dance-oriented rhythms.
According to the collaborators, the project originated from informal studio sessions in which ideas were developed through improvisation before being structured into completed tracks. This approach, they said, contributed to a more organic sound across the album.
The artists described the record as reflecting the movement from vulnerability to resilience, with each track built around emotional themes layered over rhythmic, club-oriented production.
HouseAlive also includes influences from personal experiences, including what the artists described as a late-night train journey and voice recordings that evolved into musical ideas during the production process.
In a statement, the project was framed as an exploration of shared experience through music, with emphasis on collaboration and storytelling within dance music contexts.
Following the release, SoulFreakah is scheduled to tour internationally, with planned performances in Spain, Morocco, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom as part of a European tour supporting the album.
SoulFreakah is known for combining house and amapiano styles in emotionally driven productions, while ZuluMafia has collaborated across various electronic and dance music projects in South Africa’s evolving club music scene.
