SA's Lorreta releases dancehall track alongside Nigeria's Captain Blu
South African R&B singer Lorreta has released a new single titled ‘Dance’.
The song, which features SA-based Nigerian artist Captain Blu, is available on streaming platforms Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Deezer. Produced by Captain Blu, ‘Dance’ is a fusion of dancehall and electro sounds.
''I've always been fascinated by dancehall music and enthralled with the idea of love,” Lorreta said. “I enjoy making interesting musical blends and I wanted to demonstrate that I am indeed a global citizen.”
The artist, who made her music video debut with ‘Mood’ in 2017, said she was excited about collaborating with Captain Blu.
''To be honest, Captain Blu's role on this track was initially intended for South African gqom artist Moonchild Sanelly but when discussions with this artist lapsed, because Blu had produced the beat, he felt that it was too hot of a song to pass by so he asked me to jump on and it all came together.
"Furthermore, there will be a remixed release as well featuring Tanzanian-born and Canadia-based rapper Erick Rush.”
Lorreta said she was determined to make a mark in the country and abroad. "My start just happens to be in music. I would like to encourage all, and especially women out there, by saying that whatever your dream may be remember that optimism is the key. Many people have ambition and talent but optimism is the key that rewards your patience.''
The singer, who is originally from Durban, has shared the stage with such artists as Nasty C, Babes Wodumo, Zakes Bantwini and Siphokazi. Her previous releases include ‘On Fleek’, ‘Mood’ featuring Zanda Zakuza and ‘Nobody’.
