Regalo Joints, whose real name is Tebogo Arthur Makgoba, has collaborated with vocalists Gee Skillz, Reggie Madawg and Xaviera on the project. Production contributions include Bee-Bar, Buja, Playmaster and DJ Bakke.
According to the artist, the EP draws inspiration from a period of personal reflection and a renewed connection to the Deep-Tech and Deep House genres. “The music was inspired by a feeling of rediscovering myself and the genre I first fell in love with — Deep-Tech and Deep House,” he said. “In essence all of my music is a representation of my emotions at the time of creation. I wanted to create something that could connect people with their inner calm.”
Makgoba began his career in the entertainment industry in 2009. Reflecting on his journey, he said it has included both successes and setbacks. “My journey in the music space has been filled with a lot of high and low moments. However I’ve taken with me all the tough moments as lessons, all the beautiful moments as memories and all the people I’ve come across who have contributed significantly or insignificantly to where I am today,” he said.
He explained the title of the project as part of a broader series. “I have titled this series of EPs ‘The Maverick’ because it resonates with me mastering my craft,” he said. “I am on a personal mission to leave an impact on music globally. I don’t know how long it will take for me to achieve it, but I plan to spear ahead ‘beat by beat’.”
