SA rapper Usimamane featured on Apple Music’s Rap Life Africa
South African rapper Usimamane will feature on Apple Music’s Rap Life Africa this month, as host Nandi Madida and global editorial head of hip hop and R&B, Ebro Darden, discuss his latest single, Racks, and his project G-Wagon Music: Baby Tai.
Usimamane.
Hailing from Umlazi, Usimamane has emerged as one of South Africa’s rising hip hop voices. He raps primarily in isiZulu, blending melodic trap with street-level storytelling that reflects township life, ambition and resilience.
Racks appears on G-Wagon Music: Baby Tai, the first release in a trilogy planned for 2026. Following a quiet 2025 with no official releases, the project marks a restart for the rapper and focuses entirely on his own voice, without guest features.
“Racks is all about money,” Usimamane told Apple Music. “That’s why I’m dropping it early in the year so it becomes motivation to everyone who’s trying to get paid — an anthem for the go-getters. Inspired by meeting and spending time with Rick Ross last January, all we spoke about was working hard and getting money. This year, I’ll be working harder than I’ve ever done. Stacking racks.”
In addition to Usimamane, Rap Life Africa will spotlight other major releases, including a new version of Head Up by South African rapper Nasty C, performed with the Soweto Gospel Choir, described by Nasty C as “a prayer” elevated by the choir’s vocal depth.
The show will also feature Richer, a collaboration between UK rapper J Hus and Nigerian artist Seyi Vibez, from J Hus’ surprise EP Half Clip, executive produced by JAE5. The track precedes his upcoming headline performance at Nigeria’s Shakara Festival.
Rap Life Africa serves as a companion to Apple Music’s flagship hip-hop playlist, Rap Life, and highlights emerging and established talent from Africa and beyond.
