SA radio to air Sauti za Busara
South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) radio station Radio 2000 will broadcast the Sauti za Busara music festival, which is scheduled to take place from today until Sunday in Stone Town, Zanzibar.
- The 2018 edition of Sauti za Busara is already under way.
The development was initiated by the Tanzania Tourist Board and is intended to establish a long-term relationship between the station and festival.
The station will broadcast the festival on its Planet Haaibo breakfast show. Radio 2000 began transmitting from various Tanzanian tourist-attraction sites such as Serengeti Park, Mount Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar on Sunday, and the station will now cover the music and excitement around one of Africa’s favourite music festivals.
"We, at Radio 2000, are proud to have been invited to broadcast in Tanzania, East Africa, especially at this time when we are talking about African unity and working together in terms of promoting arts, culture and tourism,” Radio 2000 station manager Puleng Thulo said.
“We welcome this opportunity to expose our station to the African continent and to generate content that will benefit our listeners in South Africa."
This year’s Sauti za Busara festival features various artists such as Zakes Bantwini (South Africa), Kasai Allstars(DRC), Saida Karoli (Tanzania), Somi (Uganda/US), Ribab Fusion (Morocco), Kidum & the Boda Boda Band (Burundi/Kenya) and the Mlimani Park Orchestra (Tanzania).
“Sauti za Busara festival showcases and celebrates the richness and diversity of live music existing around the African continent and diaspora,” Sauti za Busara organiser Yusuf Mahmoud told Music In Africa in January. “I believe this year’s line-up is our strongest ever, with a powerful mix of musicians representing East Africa and beyond.
Established in 1986, Radio 2000 is one of South Africa’s most popular radio stations that has forged relationships with a number of African countries over the years. The station is known for programming adult contemporary music, news, sports and talk shows.
