South African amapiano duo Dynamic Duo has released a new single, ‘Paris’, ahead of the launch of its forthcoming EP, Meanwhile in Daveyton.
The group, made up of Essential SA and 2KayMusiq, said the track serves as an introduction to the seven-track project, which draws inspiration from their upbringing in Daveyton, east of Johannesburg.
According to the duo, the EP explores different aspects of township life, combining personal storytelling with contemporary amapiano sounds. The project is also expected to feature collaborations with Scotts Maphuma and Cowboii.
A visualiser for Paris is scheduled for release and will include appearances by the featured artists. The duo also plans to release a series of content pieces highlighting well-known Daveyton landmarks, including Teater and KwaMabaso.
In a statement accompanying the release, the duo said: “We’re not chasing moments, we’re building legacy.”
Meanwhile in Daveyton marks Dynamic Duo’s debut project and is intended as a reflection of the community and experiences that have shaped the artists' musical identity.
Essential SA, whose real name is Nhlanhla Lucky Phoku, is responsible for much of the duo's production work. He began producing music after learning through his older brother's sound system and later developed his skills using digital production software. His influences include South African musicians such as Hugh Masekela, Trompies, DJ Ganyani and Oskido.
He has also participated in studio sessions with leading amapiano producers Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa.
The second member of the duo, 2KayMusiq, whose real name is Khaya Sibuyi, co-produces the group's music and contributes to its songwriting and creative direction. Together, the pair describe their work as being rooted in their shared experiences and long-term artistic ambitions.
The release of ‘Paris’ provides an early preview of Meanwhile in Daveyton, which is expected to be released later this year.
