Rwanda: Baloji to headline 2019 European Street Fair
Belgian-Congolese rapper and author Baloji will headline the 2019 edition of the European Street Fair in Rwanda on 8 June, to be held at the Car Free Zone in Kigali, Rwanda.
Baloji is known for his straightforward, politically-charged music whose lyrics are sung in various languages including French and Swahili.
The event’s lineup will also include Charly na Nina, rapper Riderman, Rido, Kuruka Chama, DJ Toxxy and DJ Kiss from Uganda, among others.
Now in its third edition, the European Street Fair is a very symbolic day for Europeans living and working in Rwanda because it offers an opportunity for locals to learn more about the European Union's work in different sectors in the country, such as agriculture and rural development, energy and governance.
The annual event is organised by a delegation of the European Union (EU) in Rwanda together with EU Member States embassies in Rwanda.
“The European Union Delegation in Rwanda and the City of Kigali have a good relationship,” the creative expert and senior advisor of the street fair, Eric Soul, told The New Times.
“So it’s great that we are allowed to come back to the Car Free Zone and grateful that we can work together to inject vibrancy, music, games and exhibit art for the whole family on the clean and safe streets of Kigali.”
There will also be a platform for upcoming talents to showcase their stuff in a jam session that would be curated by American singer Leslie Kujo.
Previously, the event has seen performances by Yvan Buravan, Afrogroov, Muco Band, King Blues, Djs Vasco and Pim and Nyundo Music School.
