
Open call: Universal Music metadata and release asset/production assistant in SA
Universal Music is inviting qualified candidates to submit applications for the position of a metadata and release asset/production assistant at its offices in Rosebank, Johannesburg, South Africa.
- The application deadline is 30 April 2023.

Responsibilities
- Liaise with label managers to create a global production schedule and ensure timely and accurate production of all releases and formats (digital and physical).
- Managing digital metadata, including claiming videos for monetisation.
- Create and distribute a weekly release schedule.
- Coordinate the receiving, filing and archiving of masters (audio and artwork) and assets.
- Manage relationships between designers, manufacturers, and distribution partners to ensure all deadlines are met.
- Manage label copy distribution to appropriate partners (RAV, etc), ISRC and UPC generation.
- Coordinating international and domestic stock shipments.
- Liaising with the finance department on invoices and administration.
- Provide quality control and report any issues with every release.
- Management of initial new item setup and maintenance within UMG Business Systems – R2. Legacy, Milestone, DIGS & Release workspace.
- Communicate to responsible parties regarding pending activities/issues requiring resolution.
- Maintain delivery deadlines to ensure all content meets the requested street date.
- Coordinate with label and digital teams on release dates.
- Submission of all digital content according to the digital supply chain rules and standards.
- Artwork review for physical releases ensuring all files meet required specifications.
- Coordination with label personnel and UMG operations on all relevant production issues.
- Troubleshooting and problem solving on production related issues.
- Label onboarding and catalogue ingestion.
- Maintain relationships with supply chain leads for various partners to address issues in a timely manner.
- Volunteers and “pitches in” to help other team members who are under pressure. Participates in wider business initiatives and projects when asked.
- Advises on best practice guidelines and functionality of production systems to assist and guide labels.
- Communicate clearly with label partners about the current state of products and milestone deadlines.
- A growing understanding of supply chain and production process facilitating an ability to foresee potential issues and provide workable solutions.
- Coordinate with A&R, UMG Atmos team and commercial marketing regarding ATMOS scheduling timing and ensure proper DSPs.
- (Apple, Amazon, Title) are selected.
- Work with A&R teams on final sequences and information regarding audio products such as parental advisories, cleans and N/A versions.
- Update new release dates in the scheduling tool and alert team members for timely release communication.
Qualifications, experience and skills
- Minimum two-plus years managing production in a record label or distributor environment.
- Advanced Excel knowledge.
- Knowledge of audio and video file formats.
- Can make quick decisions on their own.
- Acute attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task across multiple projects at one time.
- Clear thinker with ability to solve problems, whilst highlighting potential problems when necessary.
