Listen to The Union's new single Ufel’ukwethenjwa
South African Afro-soul duo The Union has released their new single ‘Ufel’ukwethenjwa’, which is now available for streaming and download on various platforms.
It's the group’s debut song released on Paradise Sound System and was produced by Robin Kohl alongside the duo, with additional contributions from Thozamile Shaw and Fundile Dlamini.
‘Ufel’ukwethenjwa’, which loosely translates to ‘You must speak your mind, make your voice count and don’t be a people pleaser’, fuses neo-soul and pop grooves accompanied by maskandi melodies vocals and an urban feel.
The single draws from the duo’s journey in life and the music scene. It delves into the affirmation of one’s position in society, not conforming, or allowing people to suppress their voice at the expensive cost of trying to fit in with the crowd. With the song, the two hope to inspire other people to be brave and to create awareness for the need for individuals to have more of a voice.
‘Ufel’ukwethenjwa’ adds to the outfit’s list of projects, having collaborated for almost two decades. The group was formed in 2017 and comprises singer and songwriter Gift Mahlangu and producer, bassist and songwriter Tshepo Sekele. They refer to their music as 'Afro neo-soul'.
