Kenyan CMO gets new boss
Kenyan rapper Nonini is the new chairperson of the Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK).
Nonini takes over from musician and actress Iddi Achieng who was named PRISK director. The new changes were announced in an official statement released by PRISK last week.
“Dear member, you are informed of the changes made to the PRISK board. Mr Hubert Nakitare (Nonini) has been appointed chairman,” the statement reads.
In his statement as chairperson, Nonini said he was determined to tap into new areas of opportunities, especially in forging international links and partnerships with other collective management organisations (CMOs).
“I am confident that as PRISK enters the second strategic phase of the year 2017-2019, we will achieve, and even surpass, our targets due to a dedicated staff, a capable board as well as the support and commitment from our members, partners and stakeholders,” he said.
Speaking to Music In Africa, Nonini said he was determined to continue with the provision of excellent services to its members as well as the protection of performers' rights.
“We draw motivation from our membership who are both musicians and actors,” he said. “We plan to continue providing our members with opportunities in the ever-developing creative industry.”
In efforts to improve services to its members, PRISK, which is charged with collecting and distributing royalties on behalf of performers in music and drama, recently put in place a system that the body believes will ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of royalties to all its memebrs.
The CMO has also moved its licensing process online with a view to increase efficiency in the dispersal of licences and the collection of licence fees.
