Kenyan artists spread coronavirus awareness
Kenyan musicians have released 'Pamoja Tutashinda' (Together We Shall Win) in aid of the government's efforts to fight COVID-19 in the country.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage, which is led by cabinet secretary Amina Mohamed.
The artists on the song include RayGee, Pitson, Evelyn Wanjiru, Chris Adwar, Chuchu, Christine Wambui and Zach Amunga.
The musicians highlight behavioural protocols issued by the government to limit the spread of the coronavirus. They also call on the public to practice spontaneous acts of generosity.
The country has so far confirmed 28 COVID-19 cases while many people are being closely monitored while under self- or compulsory quarantines.
The government is yet to pledge any form of support for independent artists and the creative industry. Musicians in Kenya, like many other countries in Africa and around the world, are facing financial uncertainty due to restrictions on large gatherings.
Meanwhile, on 25 March, the government announced the appropriation of 10 billion Kenyan shillings (about $95m) in support of the elderly and other vulnerable members of society via cash transfers by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
