The duo, comprising Boipelo Tselanyane and Mpho Mokhethi, originate from the Vaal and have been building a profile within South Africa’s electronic music scene. They are associated with a self-defined genre known as SGAFRO, which blends elements of Sgija, an offshoot of amapiano, with Afro Tech.
Inter B & Draad have recently performed internationally, including a headline appearance in Amsterdam at Groove III: The Next Chapter, indicating growing interest in their music beyond South Africa.
The group has collaborated with several established artists in the amapiano and Afro-house genres, including DBN Gogo, Kelvin Momo, Mr JazziQ, Tyler ICU and Oscar Mbo. Their releases include Sgafro Landlords, Dilo Tsa Ma’grootman and Soul Finesse, which have gained traction on streaming platforms and in club circuits.
In addition to their recorded output, the duo runs a platform called The Riverfront Sessions, which hosts live performances combining music and visual elements.
JO:LA founder Thabiso Khati said the signing aligned with the company’s strategy to support emerging talent with international potential.
“I am excited about signing Inter B & Draad, their ground-breaking sound, unmatched talent and infectious energy immediately stood out,” Khati said. “Their vision of taking SGAFRO to the global stage aligns perfectly with what we are building at JO:LA.”
“I first fell in love with the music, but once I met them, I knew they were superstars waiting to happen. Their focus and understanding of the business is beyond their years — at just 19 and 21, they are clear on what they want and are already moving with intent, as seen in their early international bookings.”
The signing marks a new phase for the duo, with plans focused on expanding their international presence and developing SGAFRO as a genre with broader global reach.
