Johannesburg has new music festival
South African music fans will get to experience a new festival in Johannesburg. The inaugural Feathers Festival will be held at 1 Fox on 18 and 19 October.
The festival, courtesy of the LGBT annual Feather Awards, is intended to celebrate music, food and fashion. The event will be headlined by local acts Kelly Khumalo, Boom Shaka, KB Motsilanyane, Tamara Dey and Busiswa.
Other confirmed artists include Wanda Baloyi, Amstel, Langa Mavuso, Buhlebendalo, Mr Allofit, DJ Olwe and the Mzansi Gay Choir.
“With just a week to go to the prestigious annual Feather Awards, the organisers today officially announced the first annual Feathers Festival taking place in Johannesburg next weekend,” a statement reads.
“The festival will showcase an abundance of music, fashion and food for all to enjoy. The festival will boast an exclusive market on both days, selling a delectable selection of food and drinks, art pieces, Feathers merchandise and other fabulous fashion items.”
The organisers have declared the opening night of the festival as Jozi Vogue to “play host to a unique and exciting fashion show showcasing one of South Africa’s hottest young designers, Ora, followed by a live performance by the Mzansi Gay Choir and an eight-category vogue contest.
“The festival’s main concert will take place on Saturday with headlining outfits including living legends Boom Shaka, the ever-fabulous Kelly Khumalo, SA royalty KB, the first lady Tamara Dey and the people’s favourite, Busiswa.”
