Ghana: OliveTheBoy drops deluxe edition of Avana EP
Ghanaian singer and songwriter OliveTheBoy, who shot to nationwide acclaim last year for his breakthrough single ‘Goodsin’, has dropped a deluxe edition of his Avana EP. The collection is available for streaming and download across all major digital platforms.
The new project was heralded by a series of singles: a remix of ‘GoodSin’ featuring fellow Ghanaian act King Promise and Nigeria’s Oxlade and Reekado Banks, as well as ‘Asylum’.
Avana comprises eight songs, two more than the original collection, and combines multiple pop genres, including Afrobeats and R&B.
Speaking to Music In Africa about the collection, the artist, born Joel Osei Bonsu, revealed that he felt very good about the project. “The greatest feeling I have right now is anticipation in the sense that I know I’m going to achieve a lot with my project,” he said. “I’m excited about it and I think it’s going to do good. I believe in the songs so much.”
On how he feels about all his success since his breakout single, including his August 2023 signing with Sony Music’s Columbia Records through subsidiary Bu Vision, OliveTheBoy said: “There’s a lot more to attain even though I’m thankful to God. Even before we dropped ‘GoodSin’ and the Avana EP, we believed in the project and knew it was going to do good.”
Since his big break, OliveTheBoy has remained among Ghana’s brightest emerging stars. He is among acts from the country who have recently earned an inclusion in Apple Music’s Up Next artist development programme.
