Dwin, the Stoic releases new single
Nigerian independent act Dwin, the Stoic has released his first single of the year.
It follows the up-and-coming act's first album, 2018's Heavy Heart,
The single 'Go With Me' is both sung and written by the artist and features a man talking to his beloved.
"Dwin's protagonist speaks to a lover who is far away and asks her to run away from life's stress and go on an adventure round the world with him," says a statement from the artist's team. "He cites France as one of the places they will go and tells her all that matters is the love they have."
In an interview with Music In Africa, Dwin, whose real name is Edwin Madu, said 'Go With Me' is based on his own experience. "It was inspired by a long-distance relationship and the feeling of having distance cause a strain. The song is basically about seeking refuge in the joy that traveling the world together would bring – damning the consequences of just leaving, of course."
Already the song has received acclaim from two popular music stars. 'Joromi' singer Simi shared the video on Instagram along with a love symbol and the words, "Literally just bumped into this on my TL and GAHLEEE!" Her frequent collaborator Adekunle Gold agreed. "This is beautiful," he wrote.
Dwin says his listeners can expect more music. "I have the beginnings of a 4-track EP currently being worked on. A couple of other singles exploring newer genres for me and I really want to have more live performances. Give the people a chance to experience the music in a different way."
The video, which was released today, was shot in Lagos and directed by the singer. Watch it below:
