DJs Union of Ghana unveils executive council

The announcement follows the launch of the trade union on 29 May as well as the appointment of Kwame Adu Gyamfi as acting president of the executive board and Hubert Kofi Anti as interim vice-president. Daniel Badu and Majorie Arthur were named organising secretary and national treasurer, respectively.

The executive council comprises industry professionals Azigiza Jnr, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, Prince Tsegah, Alexander Luterodt, Nanayaa Owusu-Prempeh, Kofi Amoakohene and Lovin’ C.

“It’s such a great pleasure to have these distinguished men and woman lend support to our august organisation,” DJUGA founder Merqury Quaye told Music In Africa. “This development will go a long way to strengthen the prospects of DJUGA, which sees to the welfare of DJs in Ghana.”

Quaye added that the organisation was putting together various activities to strengthen the bond among DJs in the country, including periodic general meetings and the DJUGA Health Walk on 31 July. Scheduled to take place across Ghana’s 16 regions, the walk will provide a platform for socialisation, Quaye said.

The organisation currently represents about 1 000 DJs and will ensure better coordination among practitioners while complementing the efforts of the Ghana DJ Awards by providing a platform to promote DJs.

Last month, the leadership of DJUGA met with the Musicians Union of Ghana to discuss matters of mutual interest to facilitate the development of Ghana’s music industry. At the meeting, Quaye said: “Both DJs and musicians need each other to succeed and this relationship will ensure just that.”
