The Chainsmokers are coming to Ultra SA
US DJs and production duo the Chainsmokers will headline the 2019 South African edition of Ultra Music Festival at the Cape Town Ostrich Ranch and Expo Centre Johannesburg on 1 and 2 March respectively. More international acts will be announced soon, the organisers said.
Comprising Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, the EDM-pop duo will perform full live shows on the Ultra SA's main stages.
“We’re thrilled to be making our South Africa debut this coming March for Ultra South Africa 2019,” the Chainsmokers wrote on Facebook.
Showtime Management’s Shaun Duvet expressed excitement about the Chainsmokers' performances in South Africa.
“Bringing the Chainsmokers live here is massive news for Ultra SA,” he said. “We have always prided ourselves on bringing only the biggest names in dance music, but the Chains have been on our wish list for a while and we’re unbelievably excited to show local fans how incredible this duo truly is.”
Founded in 2012, the Chainsmokers are among the electronic artists with more than 1 billion plays on Spotify. They are especially known for hits such as ‘Closer' featuring Halsey and ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ featuring Daya.
Their debut studio album Memories...Do Not Open is the third-longest-running No 1 on the Billboard Dance Chart. On that album, the duo collaborated with UK rock band Coldplay on the song 'Something Just Like This', which received massive airplay after its release in 2017.
The Chainsmokers are also known for putting on impressive live shows around the world and are hoped to entertain South African fans with new songs from their upcoming, second studio album Sick Boy.
Tickets to the Cape Town and Johannesburg events are on sale via the Ultra website.
