Call for registrations: Gospel music competition in Ghana
Ghanaian multimedia company Fragrance of Love is calling on undiscovered gospel artists to audition for the first edition of its Galaxy Reality Show in 2021.
The competition, which is open to undiscovered gospel artists regardless of age, seeks to expose the country’s next big stars within the genre. The competition is running under the theme Bringing Gospel Music to Life and will reward the top five finalists with a two-year recording deal.
Interested participants can register by dialling the following code *389*611# across all local mobile networks, after which they will receive audition details. Virtual auditions will take place from 2 to 30 November via Zoom. The deadline for registration is 31 October.
“Gospel music in the country largely lacks versatility,” Fragrance of Love operations manager Angela Afotey told Music In Africa. “Galaxy is here to create a platform of excellence and professionalism by unveiling world-class gospel musicians not only in Ghana but the world at large.”
The organisers said 24 contestants would be shortlisted and announced via Accra-based Sunny FM, whose CEO expressed optimism that the competition would “help many Christian musicians get a head start.”
The reality show will run for 16 weeks with 14 being virtual, while the remaining two will be held physically. Contestants will also be assigned to music studios and music directors who will take them through weekly grooming.
Competition judges include music director Jonathan Forson, voice coach Kennedy Osei, singer Vanessa Wilson and Dora Dei-Tumi (singer and principal at the Civil Service Training Center in Accra).
