Call for nominations: NAC advisory panel members
South Africa’s National Arts Council (NAC) is inviting competent, qualified and interested persons to serve as members of the NAC advisory panel for a period of three years from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2021.
The council is looking for members with knowledge and expertise in at least three or more art forms catered for by the NAC – namely music, dance, craft, literature, multi-discipline, theatre and visual arts.
The deadline for applications is 30 May.
Members shall be nominated by any member of the public. Nominators are required to submit a detailed motivation for the nominee, CV of the nominee and a letter of acceptance from the nominated candidate.
Successful candidates will serve in the following programmes: social cohesion and nation building, innovation, design and creation of new work, capacity building, strategic initiatives and platforms as well as exhibitions and festivals.
Requirements
Interested candidates must have the following:
- Members must have achieved distinction or have special knowledge, expertise and experience in the required fields.
- International experience, proficiency in African languages as well as knowledge and expertise in indigenous art forms will be an added advantage.
Responsibilities
- Members will fulfil the statutory role to advise the council on the merits of applications for funding and on any matter relating to the fields of the arts to which he/she is appointed to.
- The advisory panel members will be required to assess applications and make recommendations to the council.
- In addition, the advisory panel members should advise the council on policy matters relating to the arts.
Late nominations will not be considered. If you have not heard from the NAC within two months of the closing date, consider your submission unsuccessful, and no further correspondence will be entered into.
“The National Arts Council finds itself at a critical juncture in reinventing itself to remain relevant in an ever-changing sector and following a strategic realignment process,” the NAC said, adding that it is “proud to announce its strategic move from a discipline-based approach to and introduce a programmatic approach to funding, which will see funding allocation to beneficiaries located within specified programmes instead of individual disciplines.”
Nominations should be forwarded to NAC arts development manager Julie Diphofa at the National Arts Council of South Africa, PO Box 500, Newtown, 2113 or 66 Margaret Mcingana Street, Market Theatre Precinct, Newtown, 2113.
