Call for music: Al Jazeera documentary
Longshot Productions, a company in Cape Town, South Africa, is looking for a song that will be used as a soundtrack on a documentary about vigilante gangs. The documentary will be shot in Kimberly, South Africa, and shown on Al Jazeera in August.
The deadline for submissions is 3 June. Song samples should be sent via email to nikimoore007@gmail.com. The artist whose music is selected will be paid $200. The producers want the money to go to upcoming artists looking for exposure.
“We are looking for a soundtrack, a few minutes of music, to play over some of the scenes," Longshot Productions project assistant Niki Moore said. "We are looking for music that someone might already have recorded. We're not expecting people to record fresh material.
She said the producers were looking for a song similar to ‘Bazonyenza’ by Busiswa ft DJ Maphorisa’.
"In other words, very sassy and aggressive. The music will be played over a montage of scenes, showing the activities of the vigilante groups,” Moore said.
“It is a news documentary, highlighting gangs in townships where policing has failed. It is a human-interest documentary to show how ordinary people sometimes have to do desperate things.”
The successful artist will be credited and asked to sign an agreement.
