Call for entries: Art projects by LGBT artists
Squish in Rotterdam, Netherlands, has launched two calls for entries targeting artists who identify as queer or who are part of the LGBT community.
The organisation accepts applications in various formats, including:
- Visual and performance arts.
- Movies.
- Workshops.
Selected projects will be part of an exhibition/event whose details will be revealed in due course.
“Due to the COVID situation, we don't know yet when and where the exhibition/event will take place; we hope to do it in 2021 in our beloved Rotterdam,” the official website reads.
The submission deadline is 1 May.
Interested artists can submit projects for the following calls:
Censorship
This call is in search of art projects on censorship. The topics may include but not limited to self-censorship, social or cultural censorship as well as media censorship. Interested individuals can access the application form here.
Cultural Re-appropriation, Cultural Heritage, Queered Heritage
This call aims to gather works and research on cultural re-appropriation, cultural heritage and queered heritage. Depending on the received proposals, it could lead to two distinct exhibitions. Interested individuals can access the application form here.
For those unsure on whether their works are eligible for the above call, below are questions that could help:
- How do you fight cultural appropriation?
- How do you pay tribute to your ancestors?
- What did you learn from your siblings?
- How do you emancipate from your background, or how do you celebrate it?
- How did the people who raised you shaped your identity?
- How does queerness go along with traditions?
- Do you archive queer stories?
Entrants can direct music-related questions to squish.zinzi@gmail.com and arts or production questions to squish.aubane@gmail.com.
