Call for applications: NAMAs Zimbabwe
Musicians in Zimbabwe will now be able to make use of an online system to submit entries for the 2018 edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMAs) slated for 17 February.
Organised by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), the event will only accept works that were produced between 1 December 2016 and 30 November 2017.
The deadline is 30 November and entries should be submitted via this link.
Artists who wish to make physical submissions can obtain entry forms via NACZ offices throughout the country: the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Murewa Culture Centre and registered arts associations and organisations in Zimbabwe.
“The council is happy to announce to all NAMA stakeholders that entries can now be submitted online,” a NACZ Facebook post reads.
“However, supporting material may still need to be submitted in person at the above listed places for use in adjudication. All entries must be accompanied by the artist’s product(s). These could be in the form of videotapes, cassettes, flash drives, CDs, pictures or books.
“Individuals submitting works for the NAMAs are encouraged to supply three sets of the particular works/production to assist adjudicators, except where the product is from the visual arts category.”
NACZ director Elvas Mari told Music In Africa that the online system would make life easier for Zimbabwean artists.
“Artists can submit their forms from anywhere in the world,” he said. “It’s easier and cheaper. Before this online system, there were no submissions by artists living outside the country and we are expecting entries from artists based outside Zimbabwe.”
NAMA disciplines include music, dance, film, literary arts, theatre, visual arts, media and spoken word. Only Zimbabwean citizens or those with Zimbabwean resident status can enter their work for the NAMAs.
