Call for applications: IIE Artist Protection Fund
The Institute of International Education (IIE) in the US is calling on artists from all disciplines to apply for its Artist Protection Fund (APF).
Candidates around the world may apply directly or application materials may be submitted by third parties. Although the APF invites applications from individual artists, it does not provide financial awards directly to individuals. In most cases, fellowships are disbursed to a selected host institution, which in turn issues the fellowship award for direct support of the fellow.
“As we monitor the impact of COVID-19 and its effects on communities worldwide, IIE-APF continues to closely work with and provide support to fellows, alumni and host partners,” the IIE said. “IIE-APF remains committed to providing safe haven, support and creative opportunities to threatened and displaced artists.”
Who is eligible?
Artists from any country and artistic discipline may qualify. Applications are reviewed for artistic merit, the quality/potential of the applicant’s work, and the severity of the threats that the applicant faces.
Preference is given to artists who:
- Are facing or have recently fled from immediate, severe and targeted threats to their lives and/or artistic practice in their home countries or countries of residence.
- Demonstrate accomplishment and promise in their artistic practice.
- Will benefit their home and/or host communities.
The IIE encourages applications from women and members of ethnic, racial, cultural, or religious minority groups, or those otherwise underrepresented in their fields.
The APF does not grant fellowships to students seeking to continue their academic studies. In addition, the APF gives priority to individuals still living in their home country or who have recently fled. APF typically does not consider applications from individuals who have been displaced or in exile for more than two years, or who hold citizenship or another permanent status in a second country.
Application process
Interested artists can apply here. Applications and submissions are typically considered any time throughout the year, on a rolling basis. Candidates meeting APF qualifications will be considered by the APF selection committee at least two times per year. Decisions will be announced approximately two weeks after each selection committee meeting.
