Call for applications: Fulbright Egyptian Scholar Programme in Egypt
The Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt is offering arts management or museum and heritage studies grants for its Fulbright Egyptian Scholar Programme. The grant provides opportunities for Egyptian professionals and academics to research at a US institution for a period of three to nine months.
The annual programme “seeks applicants that have a developed sense of personal integrity and are original thinkers,” the official website reads. “Copying someone else’s writing, whether from the Internet, from a book or a friend, is considered plagiarism. Any quoted words or sentences should include a citation. Applicants who plagiarise will be disqualified.”
Eligibility
The applicant must:
- Have Egyptian citizenship.
- Currently reside in Egypt. Applicants must reside in Egypt starting from the application process and throughout the selection, placement and pre-departure processes.
- Be a professional at an artistic institution, e.g. museum, library, arts, cultural centre/institute, or academic faculty members at Egyptian universities in arts and cultural management, or museum and heritage studies.
- Possess a strong professional or academic background in the field of study. Applicants should be suitably qualified to conduct the proposed research.
- Have a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science and/or master of fine arts degree.
- Excellent command of English.
Requirements
Applicants should submit the following:
- A filled application form, which applicants can access here.
- The project statement and bibliography.
- Copies of certificates and transcripts for all post-secondary degrees in English.
- Three recommendation letters.
- A CV with clear contact information.
- A letter of support from the home institution.
- A scanned copy of the original valid National ID.
- Scanned copies of any previous US J1 or J2 visas (if applicable).
- Personal photo.

Remuneration
Successful applicants will receive the following:

Note:
- The grantee’s home institution typically provides international travel.
- Preference will be given to applicants without recent prior significant experience in the US and/or overseas.
Important dates
- 28 August 2021: Application deadline.
- September – December 2021: Application review.
- January 2022: Personal interviews with shortlisted applicants.
- February/March 2022: Official nomination/regret letter sent via email.
- March/April 2022: Post-nomination orientation.
- July 2022: Pre-departure orientation.
- August 2022 – May 2023: Departure date.
