Call for applications: Embassy of Foreign Artists residency in Switzerland
Switzerland's Embassy of Foreign Artists (EoFA) is calling on individuals or groups from all types of arts practice to be part of a project residencies in Geneva next year.
The call aims at an artistic intervention or process to be implemented in a participatory public project. It offers research time and visibility to original projects that examine an artist’s subject critically.
The application deadline is 15 May.
How to apply
All applications must include the following elements:
- Filled in the questionnaire.
- Application file in PDF format, maximum of 15 pages, which includes a cover letter, description of the project to be developed in Geneva, portfolio of recent work, recent CV and copy of valid ID or passport.
- A completed questionnaire, fully completed with Adobe Acrobat (get.adobe.com/fr/reader), and the application file must be sent separately in the same email (residence@eofa.ch) in PDF format. Applicants will not receive a confirmation email for an entry.
- If you are applying for a residency with an artist collective (maximum three people), you need to send a single email with one application file and a questionnaire for each member.
- For the application, candidates are requested to include a cover letter outlining their approach as it relates to the participatory process of urban appropriation. The letter can refer to projects that are completed, in progress, or upcoming.
Requirements
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- The call is addressed to all professional artists coming from following artistic fields: performing arts, visual arts and applied arts (music, dance, theatre, fine arts, literature, comics, cinema, etc.). Cultural practitioners, active in the research of contemporary cultural practices, such as curators, playwrights and set designers, or from other fields and applied disciplines (architecture, design), are also invited to apply.
- Be in possession of a wide range of creations, publications and performances at a professional level.
- Must not be registered for a basic artistic training course.
- Must not be living in Geneva/Geneva region.
- Swiss citizens residing outside the Geneva region are also invited to apply.
- Must be able to speak English.
- Must be above 28 years in the year of the residency.
- Must accept and agree to pay costs related to their travel and artistic production.
- Applications from groups are encouraged, but they cannot involve more than three people.
- Must be able to participate.
- Candidates must present a comics project or graphic experiment linked to any of the four below themes of the residency.
The themed projects for 2020 are as follows:
- Art and citizenship: Looking at the world with a critical eye.
- Art and science: Exploring scientific issues through art.
- Art and histories: Giving form to archives.
- Art and territories: Intervening in urban space.
EoFA residencies are available in the following periods:
- Three months from 1 January to 31 March 2020.
- Three months from 1 April to 30 June 2020.
- Three months from 1 July to 30 September 2020.
- Three months from 1 October to 31 December 2020.
- Six months from 1 January to 30 June 2020.
- Six months from 1 July to 31 December 2020.
The stay provides:
- A private room as well as a working space and access to common areas shared with other residents.
- A residency of three or six months (the desired length of stay must be specified on the Application Questionnaire).
- A grant of 1200 Swiss francs ($1 200) per month for the length of the stay.
