Call for applications: COVID-19 relief fund for Zim artists
Zimbabwe's Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation is calling on artists and athletes to apply for the Athletes and Arts Relief Fund (AARF).
AARF, which is worth Z$20 million dollars (about $55 000), seeks to help artists and athletes whose activities and revenue streams have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Interested applicants can download a form here and apply. Application forms are also available at the ministry and the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe’s (NACZ) provincial and district offices around the country.
The submission deadline is 31 July.
Artists
The fund is intended to benefit the following:
- Registered artists, artists’ associations/organisations/groups recognising gender and differently abled persons.
- Individual artists demonstrating the effects of COVID-19 on their practice.
- Registered arts centres, spaces and hubs.
- Registered art galleries.
- Production houses, music studios and theatres.
- Arts and culture education institutions.
- Projects and programmes (provincial and national levels with discernible impact on culture and creative industry [CCI] development).
Eligibility
To be eligible applicants must be:
- Practising artists able to demonstrate continuous practice for the past two years.
- Practitioners in the cultural and creative industry living and working in Zimbabwe for the past two years.
- Applicants must demonstrate proof that they are experiencing dire financial emergencies due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- CCI projects with an impact at district, provincial or national level will be prioritised.
- Applicants must not be employees, board members, or immediate family members of the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, the NACZ and/or the National Gallery of Zimbabwe.
- Applicants should not have benefitted from other government COVID-19 relief facilities such as the Youth Fund, Athletes Fund, Social Protection cash transfer and the SMEs sector support scheme.
Grant pay-out amounts
Qualifying beneficiaries shall receive a once-off payment as follows:
- Individual artists up to Z$5 000.
- Registered CCIs up to Z$7 500.
- Registered CCIs and social organisations up to Z$7 500.
Requirements
- Proof of registration with the NACZ.
- Applicants must be citizens of Zimbabwe or have been living and practising in Zimbabwe for the past two years.
- Proof that they reside in Zimbabwe and that their business or practice has been operating in Zimbabwe.
- Show proof of place of operation, e.g. lease agreement, ZESA bill, water bill, affidavit, etc. All these will be subject to verification by the selection committee.
