Call for applications: Convener for Animation Research Round Table in SA
Goethe-Institut’s Cav’ Platform, in partnership with Animation South Africa, invites researchers, consultants and companies to bid for a contract to convene an animation industry research round table as part of the Cape Town International Animation Festival (CTIAF) from 1 to 3 October.
Offers need to be submitted electronically (in one PDF) to Bandile Gumbi at bandile.gumbi@goethe.de with the subject line Round Table Convener before 29 August.
The following documents should be submitted:
- A profile indicating relevant experience in facilitation and research within the cultural and creative industries (CCI). It must clearly indicate experience in animation if relevant.
- One to two pages proposing how the consultants will approach the task and their budget.
Context
The Cav’ Platform and Animation South Africa have been collaborating over the past three years through dialogue forums focusing on topics that are relevant to the animation industry in South Africa. The planned round table is part of these dialogue forums.
Duration and budget
This will be a one month contract from mid-September to mid-October. The round table will be for a few hours during CTIAF in October 2021. The budget for this role is between R15 000 to R20 000.
Objective
As part of the collaboration between Cav’ Platform and Animation South Africa, research has been conducted on the state of the animation industry in South Africa. Subsequent recommendations have neither been implemented nor formulated into strategic interventions. Animation South Africa, with the support of the Cav’ Platform at CTIAF 2021, aims to collate and discuss such research to inform the transformation agenda of Animation South Africa.
Deliverables
The selected consultant will fulfil the following:
- Review research relating to the Animation Industry in South Africa. The relevant research documents will be provided by Cav’ Platform and Animation South Africa.
- Develop a concept for the animation industry research round table.
- Source, invite and brief speakers for the round table in consultation with Cav’ Platform and Animation South Africa.
- Facilitate the round table discussion.
- Produce a report on the round table.
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes related to the round table, as requested by Cav’ Platform.
Criteria for selection
A committee composed of the partners, namely the Cav’ Platform and Animation South Africa will evaluate the bids submitted. Submissions after the deadline will not be considered. The partners reserve the right to ask for additional documentation after submission.
About Cav’ Platform
Cav’ Platform contributes to existing efforts in the CCI. Through research-based forums and a virtual platform, Cav’ Platform provides a space for dialogue, networking, information and resources sharing. The project is part of Goethe-Institut’s Cav’ Creative Economies that comprises the two projects Cav’ Platform and Cav’ Townships. The programme aims to contribute to the creative and cultural industries in South Africa, by enabling creative organisations and small businesses towards income generation.
