Call for applications: Arts in Medicine Fellowship in Nigeria
The Arts in Medicine Fellowship Programme is accepting applications for its 2020-21 winter programme.
The fellowship, which is a non-profit arm of Tender Arts Nigeria, was established with the goal of bridging the gap between the creative arts space and the medical profession.
Successful fellows are provided with opportunities for educational and professional development as well as international exchange programmes that allow them to benefit from global experts in arts and medicine.
Since its establishment in 2018, the fellowship has enjoyed partnerships and support from the Center for Arts in Medicine, University of Florida, the Tides Foundation, the Nigerian Medical Association, the Sickle Cell Foundation, the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, the Association of Resident Doctors at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, the Nursing and Midwives Association of Nigeria, the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture, the Society of Nigerian Artists, and the GABI Williams Alzheimer’s Foundation in Lagos.
The fellowship entails seven weeks of virtual training sessions and six weeks comprising an internship, community engagement and report writing.
Who can apply?
The fellowship is open to:
- Practitioners within the creative industry, including professional artists, musicians, writers, poets, dramatists, dancers, videographers and photographers.
- Medical professionals such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists as well as administrators, researchers, educators and mental health and wellness advocates.
- Students in tertiary institutions across Africa.

Note: Applicants must understand and speak English, as the fellowship lectures will be delivered in English.
Successful candidates will be contacted via email on 5 November. Successful candidates are required to pay an acceptance fee as stated below:
- International participants: $20 for professionals and $15 for students.
- Local participants (Nigerians): ₦7 000 for professionals and ₦5 000 for students.
Payment details will be contained in an email to the successful applicants. Payment should be made on or before 13 November.
