Call for applications: 2020 Bemis Center residencies in the US
The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is accepting applications for its residency programmes in 2020.
The programmes will take place in Omaha, US, on 16 September and 13 November 2020.
For nearly four decades, Bemis Center’s core mission has been to provide artists from around the world dedicated time, space and resources to conduct research and to create new work across conceptual, material, performative and social practices.
The programmes will offer 10 participants with the opportunity to network, collaborate and share their work with fellow artists in residence, organisational partners and the public.
Interested participants will be required to pay a non-refundable application fee of $40 through Slideroom paid via credit card or PayPal.
The application deadline is 31 August 2019 (11.59PM CST). Successful applicants will be notified on 31 December.
Who can apply?
Bemis residency accepts artists pursuing the following art forms:
- Music composition
- Visual arts
- Media/new genre
- Performance
- Architecture
- Film/video
- Literature
- Interdisciplinary arts
- Choreography
Eligibility
Artists from any nationality can apply but they must:
- Be above 21 years old.
- Not exceed two people, if applying as a group.
- Have basic English communication skills.
People with physical disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Requirements
- Your website.

- Current email.
- Current ZIP code.
- Artistic discipline.
- A brief statement about your creative and intellectual interests and description of how you anticipate using the time and space, e.g. working on current projects, conducting research, reading, writing, etc., if you are selected for a residency (max 500 words).
- Specific resources necessary to your practice you may require while in residency, based on your interests and residency goals previously mentioned (max 100 words).
- Current resume (PDF).
- Two references including name, email, phone number and relationship to each reference.
Remuneration
Applicants will receive $1 000 as a monthly stipend and an additional $750 travel stipend.
Due to the limitations of B2 visas (touring/visiting), international artists in residence are eligible to receive reimbursement of qualified expenses, such as airfare, ground transportation and meals.
Additional stipends for studio supplies or materials are not available.
