Call for applications: Arts management fellowship in the US
The DeVos Institute of Arts Management is calling on entrepreneurial executives in the arts and cultural sector to apply for its fully funded Global Arts Management Fellowship in Washington, D.C.
The Global Arts Management Fellowship programme is designed for individuals who have dedicated themselves to management. The programme supports leaders in positions of decision-making authority in developing, implementing and refining organisational strategies over a three-year, cohort-based engagement.
Selected fellows will attend a four-week residency in July for three consecutive years (2020-2022) and engage in mentoring and cohort-based activities between residencies. Participants should be prepared to look critically at their work, challenge assumptions and develop rigorous strategies to address the most pressing challenges facing their organisations, regions and art forms at large.
Interested applicants should consider that:
- They currently serve as the executive director (or equivalent) or the head of a major department within art or cultural organisation in a paid, permanent capacity.
- Their organisation has a minimum of three full-time staff members, five years of consistent programming history, and an operating budget of at least the equivalent of $250 000.
- They have an excellent command of business English, orally and written.
- They can commit to the full term of the fellowship. (Washington D.C. residency dates are 29 June to 24 July 2020, 28 June to 23 July 2021, and 27 June to 22 July 2022).
Applications can be made online and the application deadline is 15 November.
The selection process will be done in three phases, and the successful applicants will be notified no later than May 2020. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified as soon as possible following each phase.
Fellows will receive the following from the DeVos Institute of Arts Management:
- Air and ground transportation between Washington, D.C. and their state or country of residence.
- Lodging during the fellowship.
- Per diem to cover living expenses during the fellowship.
- Visa sponsorship (for international applicants).
“Past fellows have come from a range of backgrounds – many are founders and executive directors of their organisations, which they have grown to the point of maturity, while others are new or established leaders within iconic institutions or contemporary platforms,” DeVos Institute of Arts Management said.
“All fellows share a deep commitment to the role of arts, culture and creative practice in their respective societies and inquisitiveness that drives them to engage deeply in the immersive and collaborative environment.”
