Spotify adds Siri support on iOS 13, debuts on Apple TV
Spotify has launched an updated iPhone app that lets users play music from Spotify using Siri.
A statement released on 7 October says iPhone and iPad users running iOS 13 can now use Siri to control their favourite music. Spotify has also added support for the Low Data Mode in iOS 13. The app will be able to automatically detect the mode and activate its data saver when streaming music.
To use Siri help for Spotify, users need to launch it on their device and ask the voice assistant to play an album, song or playlist.
“This eagerly awaited feature will let you control Spotify and play music, podcasts, and playlists using the power of your voice,” Spotify said. “Just make sure to update your iPhone to iOS 13 – from there, remember to end each phrase with 'on Spotify'. The Siri integration is also available on our new and improved app for iPad.”
The Siri support is also compatible with AirPods, CarPlay and HomePod via AirPlay. Spotify joins Pandora, Google Maps and Waze, which are among the first apps to undertake Siri integration.
Aside from the new Siri support, Spotify also launched on Apple TV, joining other Spotify apps for TV platforms, including Roku, Android TV, Samsung Tizen and Amazon Fire TV.
“With our new Spotify app for Apple TV, you can now access Spotify’s 50 million tracks directly from your TV, making Spotify the natural audio destination across your many devices,” Spotify said. “We’re excited to bring this app to Apple TV and will continue to innovate and enhance the app – there’s plenty more in the works.”
Together with the Apple-related information, Spotify additionally introduced help for Google Nest Home Max, Sonos Move, Sonos One SL, Samsung Galaxy Fold, and preinstallation on Michael Kors Access, Diesel and Emporio Armani Wear OS smartwatches.
“The end state here is to ensure that Spotify aligns more deeply with the multiple devices in your life so that you won’t need to find the songs or podcasts to suit the moment – they will find you,” Spotify product vice-president Sten Garmark said.
