Bio

Born Sonia Aletta Nel in Omaruru, Namibia, Nianell is a Namibian singer, pianist, guitarist and composer who grew up in Windhoek. She holds a three-year diploma in Light Music from Pretoria Technikon in South Africa and also studied Classical Music at Trinity College in London and the University of South Africa.

Her songs have elements of folk, pop, RnB, country, classic and Celtic music. To date, the artist has released over 10 albums, including ‘Who Painted The Moon?’(2002), ‘Angel Tongue’ (2004), ‘Sand & Water’ (2010) and ‘My Heart’ (2012). ‘Angel Tongue’ earned her two SAMAs, for Best English Contemporary album and Best Female Songwriter for the song 'We’ll Find A Way’. Her composition ‘Who Painted The Moon?’ was covered and featured as a single by New Zealand star Hayley Westernra on her 2003 album ‘Pure’, which sold over 2 million copies. Nianell has also released duet albums with Dozi and Romanz.

Nianell has performed in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Latvia, France, and the UK. She has shared the stage with big artists such as Christina Aguilera, Andrea Bocelli, Westlife, Diana Ross, Shakira, Freshlyground and the Grammy-winning Soweto Gospel Choir. She is also a successful motivational speaker and author.
