Call for submissions: Scores for international composers' competition
Composers of all nationalities are invited to submit scores for the sixth Grazyna Bacewicz International Composer Competition in Poland.
The composition submitted should be for symphony orchestra and/or organ orchestra.
The annual competition is organised by the Grazyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music and the Arthur Rubinstein Lodz Philharmonic in Lodz, Poland.
Interested participants will be required to pay a registration fee of €50 ($56) for each score.
The application deadline is 20 August and successful candidates will be contacted in the first half of September 2019.
Eligibility
- The competition is open to composers of all nationalities, with no age limit.
- Each participant may submit more than one score.
- All proposed works must have been composed after 31 December 2015.
- All submitted works must be unpublished.
- All submitted works must have never been performed in public before or awarded in any other competition.
Requirements
Participants must consider the following before making the submissions anonymously:
- That the score is labelled with an emblem.
- That the duration of the composition is between 15 and 20 minutes.
- That the score is sent along with proof of payment of the registration fee and a sealed envelope, bearing the same emblem as the score, which should contain the following information:
- First name and surname of the composer.
- Date and place of birth.
- Nationality.
- Address, telephone number, e-mail.
- A declaration stating that the submitted work does not infringe any third-party rights has been composed after December 31st, 2015, has not been published and performed in public before as well as it has not been awarded a prize in any other competition.
The jury will award three composers with the following prizes:
- First prize: €5 000
- Second prize: €3 000
- Third prize: €2 000
The winning pieces will be performed at three different concerts as follows:
- The first-prize piece will be played at the Arthur Rubinstein Lodz Philharmonic on 29 November 2019.
- The second-prize piece will be presented during the Musica Moderna session, organised by the Grazyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Lodz. The date will be communicated at a later stage.
- The third-price piece's performance and date will be announced by 31 January 2020.
The use of recordings and live electronics is not permitted.
