ProperDee

Bio

ProperDee, born Promise Tshidiso Khoza on 17 January 2001, is a musician from Daveyton, a township on the eastern side of Ekurhuleni. During his childhood he was known for being quiet and highly reserved, often finding social interaction challenging. Despite this, he developed a strong interest in literature, poetry, and reading — passions that would later shape his path as an artist.

Between Grade 4 and Grade 7, he spent much of his time at home writing and reciting poems, unknowingly building the foundation for his creative expression. His introduction to music came in Grade 8 when he started high school at Mabuya Secondary School. There, he encountered a rap crew that focused on battle rap, cyphers, and freestyles. Initially an observer, he soon joined in and impressed the group, who encouraged him to start writing his own music. Motivated by their support, he began crafting lyrics daily and quickly became one of the most recognised battle rappers at the school.

In 2016, ProperDee met a local rap crew and recorded his first track, although personal circumstances later led him to withdraw. He returned in 2017 with renewed focus and a significant discovery — his ability to sing and create melodies. This broadened his artistic direction and led him to record several tracks with well-known Daveyton artists, including Young Stunna, LeWrldYde, and others. After some time, he chose to continue his journey as an independent artist.

Over the years, his sound has evolved from battle rap and tribal trap to a more refined blend of Afrobeats and Drill. This progression is showcased in projects such as Ngiphakamise, No More Cry, and SPIN. Although he believes he is only beginning to explore his full potential, ProperDee has already worked with platforms such as Hillbrow Radio 24/7 and SAUMA.

As an emerging talent with a diverse artistic range, ProperDee continues to grow, experiment, and refine his craft. His story is still unfolding, and the music industry watches with anticipation as this promising young artist develops further.
