Call for submissions: JAM 2019
UK organisation John Armitage Memorial Trust (JAM) is calling on composers across the UK to submit works for inclusion into the JAM 2019 season launch concert.
The call is intended for anyone aged 18 or over, provided they were born, or are living or studying in the UK.
Successful submissions will be performed at JAM’s 2019 season launch event at St. Bride’s Church, Fleet Street in London on 21 March.
Music should be submitted to: 55 Kempshott Road, London SW16 5LJ. The deadline for applications is 12 December.
Requirements
- Interested applicants should submit pieces not exceeding 10 minutes long and be written for choir, brass quintet and organ, or a combination of these forces
- There is no minimum limit – a short fanfare is just as relevant as a 10-minute piece for all the forces
- Artists should not submit more than three pieces. They should ideally send their best piece, the one they want to perform
- All music submitted must be on paper, accompanied by a recording
- The audio version does not have to be of great quality – a sequenced/Sibelius version is acceptable. The recording will only be used as a reference during the selection process
- Music submitted to JAM does not have to be church music; music set to any text is encouraged
- Applicants should have the appropriate copyright for any words that are set. JAM will not be able to perform pieces that do not have this copyright.
- Submissions should be anonymous, and applicants should submit the music with a covering letter to enable JAM to contact them
NB: Applicants are advised to keep a copy of their music, as JAM cannot return music that is submitted.
The concert will be performed by the Selwyn College Chapel Choir in Cambridge, in collaboration with the UK brass ensemble Onyx Brass and the Southwell Minster assistant director of music Simon Hogan. The concert will be conducted by renowned UK chorus director Michael Bawtree. The submissions will be judged by British composer Paul Patterson.
All pieces used in this concert will be professionally recorded for composers to use in publicising their work. Performances are attended by the general public, publishers, commissioners, concert and festival managers and the media.
