Bio
NGWAKO MANAMELA is an artist from South Africa.
Ngwako Piet Manamela started his music career at the
age of 7 an a vibraphonist. in South Afirca he was the first
to to play that unique instruments and it was not popular
for a black child to play the instrument .As a self taught
musician influenced by the sound of Malombo which is
popularized by Mamelodi born and bred musician like
him, he was mentored by professionals and he was taught
music theory.He continued to learn by himself until he
mastered his craft on practicals and theory in music. He
was checking the music of MILT JACKSON an America
vibraphonist.
He integrated the sound of vibraphones to jazz
improvisations when he founded his band THE AFRICAN
JAZZ MOODS.He led his six peace band for a long time.
He also did session works with MARIAM MAKEBA,HUGH
MASEKELA,RENEE MCGREGER,DON LAKA,KHAYA
MAHLANGU,ZIM MNGQWANE,BARNEY RACHABANE,JABU
NKOSI,VUSI MAHLASELA,ANDILE YENANA,MOSS
MOGALE,EARNERST MOTLHA,HOTEP GALETA,MOSES TAIWA
MOLELEKA,MOSS KHUMALO,KIEPIE MOEKETSI,BHEKI
MSELEKU just to mention a few professional renowned
musicians.He organizes his own concerts to employ other
musicians old and young.
His perfomamnce were in THE INTERNATIONAL JOY OF
JAZZ FESTIVAL,TRIBUTE CONCERT,FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS,ZOO
LAKE JAZZ FESTIVAL,YAUNDE DE JAZZ FESTIVAL
(in Cameroon)Eclips festival in Musina.Most of government
departments and Embassies,the Sheraton Hotel,Holiday
inn,Protea Hotel ,EMPHEROR’S PALACE etc.
His debut CD recording titled ‘FREEDOM AT LAST’
dedicated to celebrate the release of former country
President Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela was 1994 with his
band THE AFRICAN JAZZ MOOD.He tan went solo and
release under Chisa Records owned by Hugh Masekela.
He is now doing collaborations with his students as they
get bookings for p that he is teaching.
