Call for applications: Lake of Stars Malawi
The organisers of Lake of Stars Arts Festival in Malawi are calling on artists, vendors and volunteers to send applications to participate at the event at Kabumba Hotel Resort in Salima District from 28 to 30 September.
The closing date for applications is 31 May. To apply, interested applicants should click the below links:
Artists
The organisers said the event would afford artists a chance to be recognised in different countries.
“Artists have the opportunity to perform using state-of-the-art equipment in front of international media at Lake of Stars, a project with a media reach of 600 million that generates an estimated $1.8m for the Malawian economy,” they said. “Please be aware that we can only cover a few international headline acts’ expenses and the majority of artists from outside of Malawi perform for free.
“For most acts outside of Malawi we cannot cover travel costs but may be able to offer free accommodation or camping for the weekend, guest list allocation and catering on the day of your performance.”
Vendors
Commercial vendors, social enterprises and NGOs are encouraged to apply for an opportunity to engage with the Lake of Stars onsite community.
“With thousands of people gathered on the beach for three days, it’s a great opportunity for business owners to reach new customers, promote their brand and make some fantastic sales. We have a limited number of pitches and are keen to provide an excellent variety of products and services to festivalgoers,” the organisers said.
Applicants who want to get more visibility or are representing a brand, should enquire about the Lake of Stars sponsorship opportunities by emailing will@lakeofstars.org.
Volunteers
The organisers are looking for stewards, runners, stage managers, artist liaisons and photographers to assist with a range of activities to aid the production of the festival.
“All volunteer positions are unpaid but Lake of Stars will accommodate volunteers in a tent with bedding and will provide transport within Malawi to and from the festival. Festival volunteers must be available from the Wednesday before the festival to the Monday after it.”
The event, which is now in its 15th edition, is known for promoting Malawian arts and tourism through international interaction and exposure. It organises festivals on the shores of Lake Malawi and runs events in Europe and across Africa.
