Call for applications: Goethe-Institut communications coordinator in SA
Goethe-Institut South Africa is seeking an experienced communications coordinator to run its Power Talks project.
The position is a four-month contract and the successful candidate will start work from 1 June until 30 September. The role will be based remotely, with the option to work from the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg. The current role is part-time at 20 hours per week with additional hours possible for specific events or project goals.
The project, taking place in four locations all over the country, aims to highlight power dynamics in cultural work and think through accountability, responsibility and solidarity. A special focus will be on funding opportunities for the arts in South Africa and the inherent structure.
The communications coordinator’s tasks are:
- Executing the social media strategy.
- Setting up an Instagram channel.
- Researching interesting creators to collaborate with (and develop relationships with appointed local content creators in each city).
- Liaising with project partners.
- Setting up an editorial schedule.
- Facilitate and oversee the creation of posts for Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter in different formats (still images/video) for organic posting and advertising.
- Executing the editorial schedule.
- Community management.
- Coordinating content production
- Liaising with content creators (for website and social media) for timely delivery of content.
- Creating visuals or coordinating the production of visuals.
- Liaising with web editor at the Goethe-Institut for timely publication on the power talks website.
- Liaising with PR Officer at the Goethe-Institut to ensure info for press is ready.
- Liaising with the cultural programmes team at the Goethe-Institut.

- Support PR Officer with enquiries from press if needed
The following qualifications are required:
- Relevant experience in public relations and social media in the creative and cultural sector or comparable professional experience.
- Excellent proficiency in English. Other African languages are of advantage.
- Basic graphic design and video editing skills are of advantage.
