Call for applications: MTN Bushfire EPK Press Play Competition in Eswatini
MTN Bushfire Arts Round Table in Eswatini is calling on local artists to submit applications for its Electronic Press Kit (EPK) Press Play Competition for a chance to win an all-expenses-paid professional live recording at House On Fire worth E50 000 (about $3 500).
The MTN Bushfire Arts Round Table EPK Press Play competition aims to assist artists to raise their game and achieve a higher industry standard through updating, improving and submitting their EPKs for evaluation by leading promoters in Eswatini, based on industry standards of best practice.
The competition is open to all performing artists of all ages in the music industry, including musicians, singers and DJs, entering as individuals or groups. Applicants must be citizens or residents of Eswatini and need to be able to avail themselves on the date of the recording.
Interested artists are required to send their EPK to a panel of Eswatini’s top promoters. The grand prize will bring together some of Eswatini’s leading industry experts in videography, sound and lighting, set design, personal styling and photography to elevate the winner’s brand to new heights.
Applications may be submitted via email to: applications@bush-fire.com from 20 October until 29 October.
The winner will be selected through a combination of top industry judges and popular vote. After applications close, a panel of top promoters and booking agents will evaluate them, selecting the top ten contenders.
During the application phase, a Zoom session will be held with a facilitator who will take applicants through the process of EPK creation, followed by a Q&A session. The competition will give an artist the opportunity to submit their EPK for vetting by experienced industry professionals, taking them one step closer to professionalising their brand.

The successful applicants EPK’s will be judged on:
- Creative layout and flow.
- Relevant updated content (bio and performance highlights).
- Professional photos and album artwork.
- Use of promotional platforms (website, social media etc).
Terms and conditions
- Applicants must be residents or national of Eswatini.
- The EPK must include all elements as specified.
- Only applications sent via email will be considered.
- The top ten finalists agree to have their EPK uploaded online for public voting.
- The winner must avail themselves for the recording of a live performance at House on Fire on 12 November.
- The winner must agree to media interviews.
- The prize is non-transferable for cash.
- No late submissions will be accepted.
“The importance of a well-presented EPK to an artist’s career cannot be overstated,” MTN Bushfire Creative director Jiggs Thorne said. “It is the musical resumé that promoters and booking agents use to evaluate whether or not they want to book an artist.”
The MTN Bushfire Arts Round Table is an industry forum dedicated to the development of the arts in Africa. Through facilitated dialogue between emerging artists and managers, the Arts Round Table aims to increase knowledge sharing and skills in the artistic community, thus enabling individuals and organizations to succeed as professionals in the entertainment field and creative sector. To date, over 800 local arts industry stakeholders have participated in workshops focusing on the music industry, brand and social media management.
