Call for applications: Goethe-Institut ShUM residency in Germany
The Goethe-Institut in Germany is accepting applications for the ShUM residency programme in Germany between October 2021 and February 2022.
The residency will last between four and six weeks. Three applicants will be selected to realise an artistic project that addresses the history of the ShUM communities and their religious, cultural and architectural legacy. They will work and live in one of the three ShUM cities (Worms, Speyer or Mainz).
The ShUM cities combine Jewish with European and global history and are significant for Jews and non-Jews globally. The monuments are outstanding and serve as a space of remembrance and one's own self-location in the present.
Residents will be expected to give interested visitors insight into their work and concepts in a suitable format like workshop discussions. Young people and schools will also be invited, and an exchange of ideas with local artists and cultural institutions is also desirable.
Residents will be required to share their completed projects in the form of an exhibition, concert, reading and performance, among other formats. These will be organised in collaboration with the curator and artistic director of the residency programme. The mode of communication shall be in English or German.
