Call for entries: The Search Namibia 2020
The Search Namibia is calling on talented vocalists to submit entries for the 2020 edition of the competition.
The Search Namibia is a reality TV show aimed at creating exposure for new talent. Auditions will be held online following lockdown restrictions on public gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Entries are open to local vocalists in the following music genres: R&B, hip hop, kwaito and house. There is no age restriction and the closing date for entries is 31 August. The reality show will officially kick off in September.
Contestants have to submit a 30 seconds a capella landscape video with no background instrumental. The winner will take home N$100 000 (about $6 000).
Contestants will be judged based on:
- Talent.
- Stage presence.
- Performance energy.
- Vocal texture.
- Focus on organising a performance.
- Song choice.
- Presentation and the ability to work as a team.
"There is no age restriction and that's one of the unique things about our contest,” The Search Namibia public relations officer Ndapewa Hazel Ambambi said. “This is a great platform where people can show off their vocal talent and get recognised. Participants would be getting exposure as well as skills development.
"After the closing date, everyone can look forward to 16 episodes of the three-month reality show, which will have three phases that consist of auditions, cutting and the live show."
The show will feature Dice the Rapper, Martha Namundjebo and Daniel Nadunya as the judges.
"The judges are from different fields,” Ambambi said. “When we selected them, we were looking for a variety of people in the industry with different personalities. We will also be having surprise guest judges in each phase, but they will be announced at a later stage."
The competition seeks to contribute to the sustainable growth of Namibian arts and the entertainment industry, the organisers said.
